For those suffering from extreme levels of stress everything from relaxing to sleeping becomes nearly impossible. Does anyone know of herbal remedies, relaxation techniques or exersises that can be helpful?

Yoga and Alexander’s Technique (AT) are very good for relieving stress.
Try deep breathing, sit straight but relaxed, see that you don’t tense your neck muscles, and breathe deeply to a count of 4, hold for one, and breath out for a count of 5. close your eyes and visualize the air going in, expanding your lungs, pushing back the diaphragm…
breathe slowly and as deeply as you can, when you exhale, try exhaling every last bit of air in you…yoga is very good in helping you to control breathing, and AT will help with correct posture and how to relax the neck… the neck tensing leads to stress, headaches, and fatigue.
If you can breathe deeply for a few times, you will feel relaxed… you can do it just before sleeping to help the body relax.
In terms of herbal remedies, try chamomile and Tulsi teas. Don’t have too much beverages.

you can try herbal tea, there is one celestine called “sleepy time”, if you need to do it during the day try the breathing method, breath in through your nose to the count of 4, hold to the count of 4, and breath out to the count of 6 via mouth. Repeat 5 times.
Another method is to relax by sitting comfortably, and think of your favorite place, where you were very happy, in my case it is the beach in maine. First I take a deep breath, than I concentrate on hearing the sound of the waves, than I feel for the sun, last I hear children laughing as they play. It might take a time to get it down pat, but it works great, I practiced it for natural childbirth.

If I am panicky or stressed acutely, I try to figure out where I’m saying “I can’t” and try to change it into an “I can” statement.
The product of such reformulation is oftentimes a very dramatic calming of my nerves.

Focus on your breathing. When you feel stressed/anxious take deep breaths, counting to ten while you inhale and exhale. I get anxiety all the time from stress and this really helps me out. It really clears up your mind and you can focus again.

There are a couple of ideas I use that really work for me. Breathing techniques such as counting my breaths and holding them or breathing visualizations. I also meditate or do yoga. Though, the breathing is easy quick and can be done anywhere. I usually do the counted breaths. Count to three hold for three and release for three, then count to six hold for six and release for six, then count for nine hold for nine and release for nine. I follow that up with the reverse breathing 9,6,and 3. St. John’s wart can help with depression and anxiety and if you check your vit/health food store they might be able to refer you to some other holistic approaches as well.

There are hundreds of technique’s out there. But before I Get into them let me just say that there so little research done in this field that it is just shameful.( and it is only b/c of the “big boys” in the field that don’t want the research done since they can lose potentially billions of dollars). OK sry let me continue what I was saying in beginning. You should definitely try reducing the stress thru the source of whats causing it but working on the assumption that you cant I would advise, since it is effecting your sleep patterns (which can be the source of your stress(don’t think about it to much just listen)). What I know works and you should try is a simple breathing technique that I always use when I am having trouble sleeping Deep breathing and feeling all your muscles loosen. It takes practice. You must do a lot more research on the subject b/c it is huge, way too much to type up. To make it easier try researching “guided imagery” That is guarantied to help reduce stress also look into breathing techniques sry I cant elaborate, but you should definitely research the subject it will make a difference.
    Good Luck :)
